Chapter Two: The Father’s Net

Alberta returned to the pastor’s office a few days later, as instructed. The secretary greeted her politely and ushered her in. The pastor stood to welcome her, his face glowing with what seemed like fatherly affection. “You are right on time,” he said, “that is a sign of obedience, and obedience attracts blessings.”

She sat nervously, clutching her Bible. The pastor began to pray aloud, pacing the room with intensity. He rebuked demons, broke ancestral curses, and declared her future bright. Alberta bowed her head, tears rolling down her cheeks. She felt privileged—surely this was God’s way of showing her special love.

After a long session of prayers, he suddenly grew quiet. He sat across from her and said, “My daughter, God has revealed certain secrets to me about you. Your star is bright, but it has been hidden by powers of darkness. To release it, you must undergo a special deliverance process.”

Alberta’s heart skipped a beat. “What kind of process, Papa?” she asked softly.

He smiled faintly. “Not everyone is given this kind of direction. Only those chosen by God for greatness. But it will require your total trust in me. There are instructions I will give that may not make sense to the natural mind, but they are mysteries of the Spirit.”

Alberta nodded quickly. She remembered his sermon: Without a spiritual father, you will walk like an orphan. She couldn’t afford to miss her destiny. “I will obey, Papa,” she said.

The pastor’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. “Good,” he said, lowering his voice. “Then the journey begins tonight.”

Her heart pounded. She had no idea what that meant, but she was ready—too ready—to trust.

That evening, Alberta found herself back in the pastor’s office. The atmosphere was dimly lit, candles flickering in the corners of the room. Bowls of anointing oil and bottles of water lined the desk. The pastor’s face was serious.

“Tonight,” he began, “we are going to break the chains holding your destiny. But listen carefully, daughter—this is not an ordinary prayer. It requires obedience and sacrifice.”

Alberta’s palms grew sweaty. She nodded quickly. “I am ready, Papa.”

He opened his Bible, reading a passage about Abraham offering Isaac on the altar. Then he looked at her intently. “Sometimes, God asks us to give our most precious things to prove our loyalty. You are about to enter into a covenant of greatness.”

Alberta’s heart raced. “What do you mean, Papa?” she whispered.

He smiled, leaning closer. “It means there are things I will ask you to do—things that might feel strange. But they are necessary for your deliverance. Do you trust me as your spiritual father?”

Her mind hesitated for a moment, but his piercing gaze reminded her of the honor she carried being chosen. “Yes, Papa. I trust you.”

“Good,” he said. “From now on, you must come here once a week for special deliverance prayers. Tell no one—not even your closest friends or your mother. The enemy works through people’s doubts, and they may discourage you. Your destiny depends on your silence.”

Alberta nodded, though a small knot formed in her chest. She wondered why secrecy was necessary, but she quickly brushed it aside. Who was she to question a man of God?

The pastor placed his hand on her shoulder. “Your obedience has sealed the beginning of your freedom. The real journey starts in our next session.”

The following week, Alberta returned for another session. By now, she felt both nervous and honored. She had told no one—not even her roommates at school—about these private meetings. In her heart, she believed she was protecting a divine secret.

The pastor welcomed her with a warm smile. “Daughter, I can see your spirit is ready. Not everyone is given such an opportunity. You are highly favored.” His words soothed her doubts like honey on bitter medicine.

He began the session with long, fervent prayers. Alberta knelt as his voice filled the room, commanding unseen powers to release her. After several minutes, he suddenly stopped, placed his hand on her forehead, and said, “Your enemies are strong, but God is stronger. Still, there is a mystery we must unlock for your deliverance to be complete.”

Alberta opened her eyes slowly. “What mystery, Papa?”

His expression grew intense. “Some battles are not won by ordinary prayers. They require covenant actions—steps of faith that may look foolish but are powerful in the spirit.”

Her heart pounded. She didn’t understand, but his authority made her afraid to question. “If it is God’s will, I will obey,” she whispered.

“Good,” he said, lowering his voice. “Before our next session, I want you to fast for three days. Drink only water. Do not tell anyone. After that, we will conduct a midnight prayer—just you and me. That is when your enemies will finally be destroyed.”

Alberta hesitated. Midnight? Alone? The thought unsettled her. But she quickly pushed it aside. If Abraham could sacrifice Isaac, surely she could sacrifice her comfort. “Yes, Papa,” she said, forcing a smile.

The pastor’s lips curved into a slow grin. “Excellent. The net of God is working for your destiny.”

But in reality, another net was tightening around her.

The three-day fast was the hardest thing Alberta had ever done. By the second day, her body felt weak, but she pushed on, repeating the pastor’s words in her mind: “Obedience attracts blessings.” Each hunger pang reminded her of the destiny she hoped to secure.

On the third night, just before midnight, Alberta made her way quietly to the church office. The city streets were silent, and even the barking of stray dogs made her quicken her pace. She carried her Bible tightly against her chest, whispering, “Lord, let this be my breakthrough.”

The pastor was already waiting, dressed in a flowing robe, his eyes shining in the dim light. The office looked different—candles circled the room, their flames casting strange shadows on the walls. A bowl of oil sat on the floor, and incense filled the air with a heavy scent.

“Welcome, daughter,” he said in a deep voice. “Tonight, chains will break forever.”

Alberta knelt as instructed. The pastor prayed loudly, pacing back and forth, his shadow dancing with the flickering flames. After a while, he grew silent. He walked to her, placed his hands on her shoulders, and whispered, “The Spirit says the final sacrifice must be made tonight.”

Her eyes widened. “What sacrifice, Papa?” she asked, her voice trembling.

He looked at her intensely. “Your destiny cannot rise until you give yourself fully. This is the mystery Abraham understood. Are you ready to obey completely?”

Alberta froze. She didn’t fully grasp his words, but a storm of fear and confusion began to swirl in her heart. Her body went cold, yet his piercing gaze pinned her in place.

The midnight air was heavy. The next word she spoke would change her life forever.
