Call us now:

Genesis 11:4
“Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves.”
Unity is powerful. When people agree, they can build, grow, and influence their world. Agreement multiplies strength. It aligns effort. It accelerates results. Yet unity alone is not enough. Unity without God leads in the wrong direction. It produces results that oppose His will.
The story of the Tower of Babel shows this clearly. The people spoke one language. They had one vision. They worked together with focus. They were united. But their unity was not centered on God. It was centered on themselves. They said, “Let us make a name for ourselves.” Their goal was self-exaltation, not obedience.
This is the danger you must recognize. Unity can be used for good or for evil. When people unite around pride, they strengthen rebellion. When people unite around truth, they advance righteousness. The issue is not unity itself. The issue is the foundation of that unity.
Genesis 11:6
“And the Lord said, ‘Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.’”
God Himself acknowledged their unity. He saw their agreement and their capacity. He saw that their unity would produce results. This teaches you something important. Unity gives power. It removes limits. It creates momentum. But if that power is not submitted to God, it becomes dangerous.
The people at Babel were not weak. They were organized. They were disciplined. They were determined. But they were moving in the wrong direction. They wanted to reach heaven by their own effort. They wanted recognition without submission. They wanted glory without God.
This pattern still exists today. People unite around business, politics, culture, and influence. They build systems. They create movements. They achieve visible success. But if God is not at the center, that unity becomes empty. It may look strong, but it lacks eternal value.
Psalm 127:1
“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.”
You can build something impressive without God. You can gather people. You can organize structures. You can gain attention. But if God is not involved, your labor is in vain. It may stand for a season, but it will not last.
Unity without God produces pride. The people at Babel did not seek God’s will. They did not ask for His direction. They decided their own path. Pride always pushes you to replace God with self. It tells you that your ability is enough. It convinces you that you can succeed without Him.
Proverbs 16:18
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Their unity gave them confidence, but that confidence was misplaced. It was rooted in human strength, not divine guidance. This is why God intervened. He confused their language. He scattered them across the earth. He stopped their project.
Genesis 11:7–8
“Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.”
God did not destroy them because they were united. He intervened because their unity was leading them away from Him. Their direction was wrong. Their purpose was wrong. Their motive was wrong.
You must learn from this. Unity without God will eventually face divine resistance. God will not support what opposes His will. He will not bless what promotes pride. He will not strengthen what ignores Him.
Amos 3:3
“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
Agreement is necessary. But the first agreement must be with God. Before you unite with people, you must align with God. Before you join a vision, you must test its foundation. Is God at the center? Is His word guiding it? Is His will being honored?
Many people are united, but not aligned with God. They share goals, but not truth. They have passion, but not direction. This leads to confusion, frustration, and eventual collapse.
True unity begins with God. It flows from obedience. It is built on truth. When God is at the center, unity becomes a force for good. It brings life. It produces lasting fruit. It honors Him.
Psalm 133:1
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
This kind of unity pleases God. It is not driven by pride. It is not built on self-promotion. It is grounded in humility and obedience. It seeks God’s glory, not human recognition.
Unity with God brings clarity. At Babel, confusion came because God was not involved. When God leads, there is direction. There is understanding. There is peace. You know where you are going and why you are going there.
James 3:16–17
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits.”
Self-seeking produces confusion. That is what happened at Babel. Their unity was rooted in self-interest. It led to disorder. But when unity is rooted in God’s wisdom, it produces peace and fruitfulness.
You must examine your life. What are you building? Who are you united with? What is the foundation of your efforts? It is possible to be busy, active, and united, yet far from God’s will.
Do not be impressed by unity alone. Look at the source. Look at the motive. Look at the direction. If God is not leading it, it will not stand.
You must choose unity with God first. Align your heart with Him. Submit your plans to Him. Seek His direction. Let His word guide your steps.
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
When you acknowledge God, He directs you. He gives you the right path. He connects you with the right people. He builds through you what will last.
Unity without God leads to scattering. Unity with God leads to establishment. One ends in confusion. The other ends in fulfillment.
Choose the right foundation. Build with God. Walk in agreement with Him. Let your unity reflect His will. That is the unity that brings lasting impact.
