The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. At the heart of the gospel is the belief that Jesus, who was crucified, buried, and thought to be gone forever, rose from the dead on the third day. But this is more than just a historical claim or a religious tradition. It is a question that every human being must face personally: Is Jesus alive today? If He is, then it changes everything—our view of life, death, hope, salvation, and eternity.
Let us explore the biblical evidence, historical support, and spiritual implications of the resurrection, and see how the living Christ continues to work in the world today.
1. The Empty Tomb
The first and most powerful evidence of Jesus’ resurrection is the empty tomb. After Jesus was crucified, He was buried in a sealed tomb guarded by Roman soldiers. Yet on the third day, the tomb was found empty. The stone was rolled away, and His body was gone.
In Luke 24:5-6, the angels at the tomb told the women who came to anoint His body, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!” This was not just a spiritual experience—it was a real event. The body of Jesus was never found, and no one has ever produced any physical evidence to contradict the resurrection.
Even Jesus’ enemies admitted the tomb was empty. Their explanation was that the disciples stole the body (Matthew 28:11–15), but how could frightened fishermen overpower trained Roman guards, and then risk their lives to preach a lie? The only reasonable explanation is that Jesus truly rose from the dead.
2. Eyewitness Accounts
The Bible records that Jesus appeared to many people after His resurrection. In 1 Corinthians 15:3–8, Paul writes that Jesus appeared to Peter, then to the twelve disciples, then to over 500 people at once, then to James, and finally to Paul himself. These appearances were physical, personal, and undeniable.
The disciples talked with Him, walked with Him, and even ate with Him (Luke 24:41–43; John 21:12–13). Thomas, who doubted, touched His wounds (John 20:27–29). These were not hallucinations or dreams. These were real, historical encounters with the risen Jesus.
And the transformation of the disciples proves it. Before the resurrection, they were afraid and hiding. After seeing the risen Christ, they became bold witnesses, willing to suffer and die for their faith. People do not die for what they know is a lie.
3. The Birth and Growth of the Church
Another strong evidence that Jesus is alive is the birth and rapid growth of the Church. After the resurrection, Jesus told His followers to preach the gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:19–20). In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and Peter preached boldly. That day, 3000 people believed and were baptized.
The early church was marked by power, miracles, unity, and unshakable faith in a living Savior. Despite persecution, they multiplied rapidly. Why? Because they were not spreading a religion—they were sharing a relationship with a living Christ.
To this day, His Kingdom remains the largest religion in the world. Millions have had their lives changed through encounters with Jesus. Dead leaders do not give life. Only a living Christ can do that.
4. The Witness of the Holy Spirit
Jesus promised that after He returned to the Father, He would send the Holy Spirit to live in His followers (John 14:16–17). That promise was fulfilled and continues today. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer is proof that Jesus is alive.
“And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies…” ( Romans 8:11). The Spirit comforts, convicts, empowers, and guides us daily. That inner witness is the voice of the risen Lord within us.
5. Transformed Lives Today
One of the greatest evidence that Jesus is alive is the millions of changed lives around the world. Former drug addicts, criminals, atheists, broken-hearted people, and even skeptics have encountered Jesus and experienced total transformation.
Jesus is not just a figure from history—He is a present reality. He heals, delivers, saves, and restores. People from every tribe, language, and nation testify of His power and presence in their lives.
You may not have seen Him physically, but His impact is undeniable. He lives in the hearts of all who believe. Revelation 3:20 says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person…” That invitation still stands.
6. Jesus Is Alive in Heaven
Jesus is not only spiritually alive—He is physically risen and glorified. Acts 1:9–11 records that after appearing to His disciples, Jesus ascended to heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of the Father. Hebrews 7:25 says, “He ever lives to make intercession for us.”
He is preparing a place for us (John 14:2–3). He is reigning as King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16). And He is coming again in glory to judge the living and the dead. The resurrection assures us that death is not the end. Because He lives, we too will live (John 14:19).
7. What Does It Mean for You?
If Jesus is alive—and He is—then you must respond. His resurrection is not just a story or a symbol of hope. It is a personal invitation to new life. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Believing in the resurrection is not optional for a believer—it is central. It means Jesus has defeated sin, death, and the grave. It means forgiveness is possible. It means you don’t have to live in fear or shame. It means you can have eternal life.
He Is Risen Indeed!
Yes, Jesus is alive! He rose from the grave, appeared to many, ascended into heaven, and is still working in the world today. His resurrection is not just history—it is the heartbeat of our faith. It is the source of our joy, hope, and victory.
Do you know the risen Christ? Have you surrendered your life to Him? If not, now is the time. Open your heart and let the living Savior in. And if you already believe, let your life be a testimony that Jesus is alive—not only in heaven, but in you.
Prayer
Risen Lord Jesus, I believe You are alive today. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins and rising again to give me new life. I open my heart to You. Be my Lord, my Savior, and my friend. Fill me with Your Spirit, and let Your resurrection power be alive in me. Help me to live every day in the joy, hope, and victory of knowing that my Redeemer lives. Amen.
He is not in the tomb. He is risen. He is alive forevermore. Hallelujah!
