Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord?

“Is anything too hard for the LORD?”Genesis 18:14

Life often places us in situations where our faith is tested. We face challenges that seem insurmountable—bills that cannot be paid, sicknesses that appear incurable, broken relationships that look beyond repair, dreams that feel dead, and prayers that remain unanswered. In moments like these, doubt creeps in and whispers: “Perhaps this is too big, too late, or too impossible.” But the Word of God reminds us through the eternal question asked in Genesis 18:14: “Is anything too hard for the LORD?”

This question was first asked concerning Sarah, Abraham’s wife, who had been barren all her life. Humanly speaking, she was past the age of childbearing, and Abraham was also old. From a natural standpoint, having a child was impossible. But God declared His promise that Sarah would bear a son, and when Sarah laughed in disbelief, the LORD responded with these powerful words: “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Indeed, just as God promised, Isaac was born at the appointed time.

Let us, as disciples of Christ, explore this truth: there is nothing too hard for our God.

1. God’s Power Is Without Limit

“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”Jeremiah 32:17

The prophet Jeremiah understood the greatness of God. He proclaimed that the very One who spoke the universe into being has unlimited ability. If He could create galaxies, command the seas, and breathe life into dust, then no situation in your life can exceed His power.

When you face challenges, remember that you are not relying on human strength, but on divine omnipotence. The same God who parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21-22), brought water from a rock (Numbers 20:11), and fed five thousand with five loaves and two fish (Matthew 14:19-21) is still at work today.

2. God Specializes in the Impossible

“For no word from God will ever fail.”Luke 1:37

When the angel appeared to Mary, a young virgin, and told her she would conceive and bear the Son of God, she was overwhelmed. From a human perspective, it was impossible. But the angel declared, “For nothing will be impossible with God.”

This truth is consistent throughout Scripture. Every great miracle was birthed in situations where man’s ability ended and God’s power began. Daniel survived the lion’s den (Daniel 6:22), the three Hebrew boys walked unharmed in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:27), and Lazarus was raised after being dead for four days (John 11:43-44). These accounts remind us that when the circumstances scream “impossible,” God steps in to reveal His glory.

3. God’s Promises Are Sure

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”Numbers 23:19

Often, what makes us feel as though something is too hard for God is the delay between the promise and its fulfillment. Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years for Isaac. Joseph waited more than a decade in slavery and prison before his dream was fulfilled (Genesis 41:46). David was anointed king as a young boy but waited many years before sitting on the throne (2 Samuel 5:4).

Delay does not mean denial. God works in His appointed time, and His timing is always perfect. What He has spoken, He will surely bring to pass.

4. God Is Able to Save to the Uttermost

“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”Hebrews 7:25

Sometimes the hardest thing for a disciple to believe is that God can save, forgive, and transform the worst sinner. Yet Scripture shows us that God delights in doing just that. Saul of Tarsus was a persecutor of disciples, but God turned him into the Apostle Paul (Acts 9:1-6). The thief on the cross received eternal life in his dying moments (Luke 23:42-43).

There is no sin too deep, no past too dark, and no soul too lost that the Lord cannot redeem. Truly, nothing is too hard for Him—even the salvation of the hardest heart.

5. God Turns Trials into Testimonies

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”Romans 8:28

Many times, what we call impossible is simply a setup for God’s glory. When the disciples saw the man born blind, they asked Jesus, “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” But Jesus replied, “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:3).

Your hardest battle may become your greatest testimony. God specializes in transforming trials into triumphs. When you look back, you will say like Joseph to his brothers: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…” (Genesis 50:20).

6. How Should Disciples Respond?

When faced with difficulties, how should disciples live out this truth that nothing is too hard for the Lord?

  1. Pray with Faith“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24).
  2. Wait Patiently“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him…” (Psalm 37:7).
  3. Speak the Word – Instead of confessing fear, declare His promises. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13).
  4. Obey Promptly – Many miracles in Scripture were unlocked by simple acts of obedience (John 2:7-9).
  5. Encourage Others – Share your testimonies so that others may be strengthened in their faith (Revelation 12:11).

Conclusion

The question “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” is not merely rhetorical—it is a call to believe, to trust, and to rest in God’s limitless power. As disciples, we must remind ourselves daily that our God is greater than our challenges, stronger than our enemies, and faithful to fulfill His promises.

Whatever you are facing today—whether sickness, financial need, family struggles, or spiritual battles—remember: there is nothing too hard for the Lord. He who opened barren wombs, raised the dead, calmed the storm, and conquered the grave is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Lift up your eyes and fix your faith on Him. He is able. He is faithful. He is the Lord Almighty, and with Him, all things are possible.
