You Must Be Born Again

A Call to True Transformation

Introduction

One of the most profound statements made by Jesus Christ is found in John 3:3 (NIV):

Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.

This declaration is not optional for those who seek to inherit eternal life. Being “born again” is not just a religious phrase; it is the very foundation of a true Christian life. In this message, we will explore what it means to be born again, why it is necessary, and how you can experience this life-changing transformation.

1. What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?

To be born again means to experience a spiritual rebirth. When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus in John 3, He was explaining that physical birth alone is not enough to connect us with God. Every human being is born into sin, separated from God. Spiritual rebirth reconnects us to Him, cleansing us from sin and giving us a new heart.

Ezekiel 36:26 (KJV)

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.”

Being born again is not joining a church, performing rituals, or following religious traditions. It is an inner change, a transformation that starts when a person repents of their sins, believes in Jesus Christ, and receives the Holy Spirit.

2. Why Must You Be Born Again?

Jesus did not say “you should consider being born again”—He said, “You MUST be born again.” This shows the absolute necessity of spiritual rebirth for salvation.

Reasons Why You Must Be Born Again:

  • a. Sin Has Separated Us from God.
Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory.
  • b. Our Good Works Cannot Save Us.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) reminds us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
  • c. Only Through Christ Can We Be Saved.
Jesus is the only way to God.
John 14:6 (KJV) says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Being born again reconnects you with God, cleanses you from sin, and places you on the path of righteousness.

3. How Can You Be Born Again?

Becoming born again is simple, but powerful. It involves:

a. Acknowledge Your Sin.

Realize that you are a sinner who needs forgiveness.
Romans 6:23 says:

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

b. Repent of Your Sins.

Turn away from your sinful lifestyle and seek God’s mercy.
Acts 3:19 (NIV):

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.”

c. Believe in Jesus Christ.

Believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again.
John 3:16 (KJV):

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

d. Confess Him as Lord.

Confess Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior.
Romans 10:9 (NIV) says:

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

4. Evidence of Being Born Again

A born-again believer will begin to show evidence of a changed life:

  • Love for God and others.
  • Hunger for God’s Word.
  • Desire to live righteously.
  • Conviction over sin.
  • Bearing the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

While perfection is not immediate, transformation is inevitable. When you are truly born again, your heart changes, your desires shift, and your life begins to reflect Christ.

5. Benefits of Being Born Again

  • Eternal life with God.
  • Freedom from the bondage of sin.
  • Peace that surpasses understanding.
  • The indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
  • Assurance of God’s love and presence.

Being born again is the gateway to all of God’s promises and blessings.

6. A Personal Invitation

Dear reader, this message is not just information—it is an invitation. Jesus Christ is calling you today. Do not delay. Life is uncertain, but the promise of salvation is certain if you respond now.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (NIV):

“I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”

7. A Simple Prayer to Be Born Again

If you desire to be born again, pray this prayer sincerely:

“Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I confess You as my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart. Transform my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Conclusion

Being born again is the most important decision of your life. It is the doorway to peace with God, joy in life, and hope for eternity. Jesus Christ is ready to give you a new beginning.

Let His words echo in your heart:
“You must be born again.” (John 3:7)
